School holidays are perfect opportunities to expose kids to activities that they normally do not engage in, where they get to have fun and learn something new in the process.

Here are some programs we like for  kids in kindergarten,  preschools and primary school during the November and December holidays.


Have  fun with bending light and create a magnifying glass without using glass!

Thinking Loft have a series of workshops where kids explore science concepts while being encourage to think about phenomenal such as: Why is it not easy to catch fishes with just your hands? Why is it difficult to judge whether a swimming pool is deep or shallow? Why do we see rainbows…

For: Kids 5-8 years old
Where: Various Community Centers
Duration and Time: One and a half hour per workshop. Various timing  7,12, 14 and 20 Dec.
Cost: $30/workshop including material cost.*

Learn to Skate

Skate with Us is organizing a Christmas Skate Camp. Besides learning how to skate, campers will become Princes and Princesses on wheels! They will also get to indulge in a Christmas Tea Party with delicious mini cupcakes, cake pops, mini sandwiches, biscuits.

For: Kids 3 -12 years old
Where: West Coast Park or East Coast Park
Duration and Time: 1- 4 Full Days camp. 9am -5pm. 21-24 Nov, 5-8 , 19-22, 26-29 and 28-1 Dec 2011
Cost: $198 – $518 *

Make cool things out of Mosaic

Kunst Play is having a 2 day workshop where kids get to make mosaic mirrors, door hangers and stuff. The meticulous process of mosaic making promotes the child’s’ psycho-motor skills and introduces them to various tactile materials that can be use in Art. It also promotes FOCUS skills and DETAILING technique. Each kid will have a beautiful functional finished artwork at the end of the day to bring home to at the end of the workshop.

For: Kids 4-12 years old
Where:The Substation Classroom 1
Duration and Time: 2 days workshop 2-4 pm, 24-25 Nov 2011

Learn to draw your favorite cartoons characters how the masters create art

Artz Graine have a series of workshops that teach kids how to draw cartoon characters (Angry  Birds, Tom and Jerry and Smurfs) or paint using techniques of famous artist such as Monet, Jackson Pollock and Leonardo Da Vinci.

For: Kids 4-12 years old
Where: Queens Road
Duration and Time: One and a half hour per workshop. 9-10:30am, 10:30-12:00pm, 1:30-2:00pm. 2:00-3:30pm.  21Nov – 30Dec.
Cost: $30/workshop or $55 for 2 back to back workshops.*

Learn about technology through Lego

Children’s Technology Workshop™ have a series of 5 days workshops that teaches engineering concepts LEGO, expose kids to computer and digital art.

For: Kids 3.5-6 years old
Where: Forum Shopping Centre
Duration and Time: 1.5 hours per day over 5 days. 10:30-12:00pm 21-25 Nov, 5-9 Dec 19-23 2011 Dec or 2-6 Jan 2012. 3:00-4:30pm 12- 16 Dec
Cost: $400*
