Places to go and things to do for Mid-Autumn Festival 2013

Mid Autumn Festival ( also known as Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival or Zhong Qiu Jie)  is coming early this year, September 19 in fact. So it’s time for kids to make some lantern, get in to some mid autumn festival art and craft and go for a nice walk with the lanterns!

Mid Autumn Festival at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay is the place to go lantern displays, activities and cultural performances like lion dance. Big elaborate lanterns with names like Dragonfly Lake’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Birds and Insects Paradise’ and ‘World of Fairy Tales’ will light up the place.

Where: 18 Marina Gardens Drive Singapore 018953. A free shuttle transfer from Marina Grove B Carpark to The Meadow Carpark will be available in 15 minute intervals from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM, 13 to 22 September 2013

Make a  Lantern and enjoy moon cakes

Learn about Mid Autumn festival, make your own lantern and enjoy mooncakes.

Make a Lantern at Wan Qing Yuan

Wan Qing Yuan is having a whole array of activities including guided tours, lantern riddles, Chinese arts and crafts demonstrations, lantern-making workshops and an array of performances.

Print with Woodblocks!

Kids get to experience one of the earliest printmaking processes – woodblock printing, and to bring home their handiwork as part of the Moonfest activities at The Esplanade

Interactive story – The Chang Er Rescue

Another free event from Moonfest festival, this interactive storytelling session with “Play”ground artists tells of a story where the Moon Palace with Chang Er in it has fallen into the river! A little monkey tries to rescue the damsel in distress, but every attempt seems to make matters worse.

Walk about with Lanterns : Chinatown Mass Lantern Walk

Come dressed like a lantern or bring along your creative lantern to join in the lantern walk which is open to everyone. Enjoy a leisurely-paced lantern parade procession under the moonlight, dazzling street light-up and decorations in Chinatown. There will be a wide range of entertainment from dragon dance, energetic cheerleading performance to percussion band during the walk. The lantern walk will conclude with stage performances and pyrotechnics display in the heart of Chinatown.
